Philippe Joubert qualified from the Ecole Péninghen and the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers d’Art in Paris and has always shared a great passion for the sea and sailing with his naval architect brother Michel. In 1982, he and his wife bought the Chantier Naval de l’Ile de Ré, a small boat yard which specialised in repair work. The yard in St Martin, just a few miles from La Rochelle, soon made a name for itself for the quality of its work and its flexibility in managing to satisfy unusual requests.
It built a number of moulds and pre-forms for big shipyards in La Rochelle such as Gib Sea, Kirié and Fountaine Pajot as well as advanced technology components for racing catamarans such as Charente Maritime I and II, Côte d’Or, Sofati Soconave, Médecin sans Frontière, to name but a few.
